Release Show

Well ladies and gentlemen, the time has arrived. We are very excited to announce that Cellar Door Records will be releasing two albums simultaneously. On May 16th, 2008 at the Grog Shop we will be releasing the long awaited full length debut from The Frozen Hellsicles, titled: “Oh No Wait A Minute.” We will also be releasing the brand new full length from The Slow Blade, titled: “Kill the Lights.” Of course both bands will be performing that night along with special guests The Uncanny Xela. All three of these bands have a history with Cellar Door so this will be a very special night for us. Admission to the show is $10 and that gets you copies of BOTH cds. Show starts at 9pm sharp. Check back soon for sound clips from the album.

The Frozen Hellsicles album “Oh No Wait A Minute” was recorded and mixed by Todd Tobias (Guided By Voices, Robert Pollard) at Waterloo Studios in Kent and “Kill the Lights” by The Slow Blade was recorded by Keith Vance at home.

The March issue of Cleveland Magazine has a review of Cellar Door Records Volume II along with a Q&A with one Justin Markert. Check it out if you get a chance. The review for the album is on their website. But the Q&A is only in the magazine itself. If you’re too lazy to click the link, here is the review:

Cellar Door Records
Volume II
This compilation from Lake County’s Cellar Door Records is a reintroduction of sorts. Out of the trio of guys behind the new independent label, two of them once owned a Madison, Ohio, coffee shop that also served as a performance space for local and regional musicians (see sidebar). This 12-song release —marked “Volume II” in honor of a coffee-shop compilation released during that previous business venture — showcases a six-pack of local acts, ranging from a gritty punk outfit (The Frozen Hellsicles) to an ethereal singer-songwriter (Rachel Bruening). This Is Exploding adds its signature staccato rock sound to the mix, and Keith Vance turns do-it-yourself, low-fi indie rock — infused with everything from jangly banjos to static-drenched electronic blips — into a thing of beauty.

Our Pick: Keith Vance’s “Come on Love”

ABOUT

Filed under: Uncategorized — Administrator @ 9:13 pm

From 2003-2004, Rick Fike and Justin Markert owned and operated Cellar Door Coffee and Music in Lake County, Ohio, with the objective of giving local talent a forum for their creative exploits. These two college students/musicians created, for a short time, a prevalent music venue which offered its stage to bands such as Oh My God, The Detachment Kit, Hero Pattern, The Heavenly States, Xela, The Pink Spiders, The Miranda Sound, Adios, and Kopaz. They also started a small record label, releasing one compilation before selling the business to pursue other interests.

In 2007, Rick Fike, Justin Markert, and Adam Butcher have returned to Lake County with a similar, but realigned goal. Once again they want to use their mutual passions for music and entrepreneurship to help musicians be heard, but this time they want to make the music available to a much bigger audience. Thus, Cellar Door Records has become North East Ohio’s newest record label.

To alert the world of their return, they have released Cellar Door Records Volume II, a compilation featuring almost exclusively musicians who performed on the now disassembled Cellar Door stage: The Frozen Hellsicles, Doug Ivancic (of keepcalm), This is Exploding, Keith Vance (of The Slow Blade), Justin Markert (formerly of Swimming With Angels), and Rachel Bruening. The twelve track release will be used to jump-start the label, which has full-length albums featuring some of the artists on the compilations planned for the fall and winter of 2007.

In the wake of a successful label release party on August 11th, 2007 at the Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland, Cellar Door Records is currently booking their artists throughout the Cleveland area, and preparing to go back to the studio to finish full-length albums for some of their artists. Look for releases in the Spring of 2008, and for their artists at Cleveland area venues in the near future.
